Thanksgiving Food Overview

FOOD:
The food in my house for Thanksgiving is simple-yet delicious! My mom is a wonderful cook, and even though I'll offer to help, she'll tell me I'm not fast enough at peeling potatoes. But its okay- watching her cook makes up for it!

Main Dish:
  • obviously the turkey!!!
Sides:
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Onion Soup Mix Potatoes
    • (not everyone in my family are mashed potato lovers-but I just don't understand it!)
  • Salad
  • Stuffing
  • Cranberry Sauce
  • Assorted Vegetables (carrots, green beans, corn, broccoli, etc.)
Desserts:
  • Apple Pie
  • Cinnamuffins
  • Ice Cream (Sorbet for the Allergic)
    • By the time we get to dessert, we are all stuffed! So not a lot of effort is put into the dessert category... :)
Drinks:

  • Apple Cider
I meant to get this out before Thanksgiving, but there was a lot going on last week, and didn't have computer access until today! I hope everyone had a great allergen-free Thanksgiving!

  1. Hey, Alli. Thank you for your blog about teenagers with allergies. I think it could help kids around the country. Why did your family serve carrots for Thanksgiving if you (and your brother?) are allergic to carrots? Isn't that dangerous? How often do you have a reaction? My family avoids allergens completely, so I am wondering about your risk tolerance.

    1. Well, actually, I'm in the only one in my family allergic to carrots (not even my brother is!) For me, it isn't that dangerous. I am not highly allergic to carrots-in fact, I only get an itchy tongue when I eat them. For me, its okay if carrots touch my food, i just can't have large quantities. For example, if I go to a restaurant and order a salad, and it comes with carrots, if I pick off the carrots I'll be okay and won't react. I haven't had a reaction in over 2 years! When it comes to what allergens to avoid having at the dinner table, and what's okay to have, its all a matter of preference. My family doesn't really avoid having something in the house even though my brother and I are allergic, we just make sure the food doesn't contaminate what my brother and I are eating. I hope this helped!
